The issue of immigration reform is a hotly debated topic with so many facets to consider that they are not likely to be resolved anytime soon. One of the issues being debated is the impact on certain businesses if all undocumented workers were somehow eliminated from the work force. This is particularly true in Arizona where new requirements to electronically verify employment status were made effective January 1, 2008. Construction laborers would be another group that would be another group that would be affected. And everyone knows that our farms that grow fruit and vegetables would likely grind to a halt if they did not have access to migrant labor.

Divorce, alcoholism, teen delinquency, the death of a loved one: They’re the personal traumas that can transform a top-flight employee into an unproductive liability.
Most companies take an informal approach to spying distracted staff members. They’ll notice if a once-prompt worker has started coming to work late, or a formerly well-dressed colleague has made every day casual Friday. However, encouraging a fading corporate star to get help is tough. People don’t want to pry, and many hope the problem will simply pass with time.
But a little-known corporate benefit — the employee-assistance program — can help workers resolve a wide range of private issues. An employee-assistance program can link staffers in trouble to services that can get them back on track at work before their worries permanently sabotage their jobs and careers.
This link will take you to the full article article discussing EAP’s, and featuring extensive comments from Payroll Solutions CEO Howard Winters about the EAP Payroll Solutions includes amongst its employee benefits.
